A Study on the Relationship Between Gender Wage Gap and Welfare Expenditure: Focusing on the Some OECD Countries

Abstract
The purpose of the study is to analyze the effects of social welfare expenditure on the gender wage gap based on the theories of human capital theory and job search theory. The data for the study come from 18 OECD countries from 1990 to 2009. The main results are as follows. First, author confirms that the gender wage gap is reduced during the research period. Second, the expenditure for family income guarantee program shows negative relationship with gender wag gap. The expenditure for family income guarantee program reduce the necessity to work for female and it may give female free time to search for good jobs instead of accepting the bad job immediately. The expenditure on family benefits in kind shows no relationship with gender wage gap.
